Old Cathedral of Bragança

Bragança

The Sé Velha de Bragança or Antiga Sé de Bragança was built during the 17th century, with the city council's initiative and the support of Duke Teodósio. Initially it would be a convent of the order of Santa Clara, but it was a college with the Society of Jesus, between the years 1562 and 1759. In 1764, the church became the Cathedral and underwent some works with the aim of enlarging the site. Some aspects to be highlighted in the Old Cathedral of Bragança are its Renaissance portal which in the centre includes a niche with a Virgin of Milk with the Child and also its richly decorated interior.
